The Central Coast Regional District is a special area in British Columbia, Canada. It's like a large county or district that helps manage local services. This region covers a huge land area of about 24,559.5 square kilometers (9,482.5 sq mi). That's bigger than some small countries!
When it was first created in 1968, it was called the Ocean Falls Regional District. This name came from Ocean Falls, which was the biggest town there at the time. Later, in 1976, the name was changed to the Central Coast Regional District.
What is the Central Coast Regional District?
The Central Coast Regional District (CCRD) is unique because it doesn't have any big cities or towns with their own separate governments. Instead, the entire area is managed by the regional district.
Who Lives Here?
In 2016, about 3,319 people lived in the Central Coast Regional District. The population has changed a bit over the years. For example, in 2001, there were more people, around 3,781.
How is the Area Organized?
The Central Coast Regional District is divided into five main areas called Electoral Areas. Think of these as different neighborhoods or zones. Each of these areas gets to choose one person to represent them. These representatives form the Board of Directors, which is like a local council. They make important decisions for everyone living in the district.
Here's a look at the different Electoral Areas and how many people lived in them in 2001:
Electoral Area | Population (2001) | Representative (2018-2021) |
