The Central Region is an important administrative area, also known as a zoba, located in the middle of Eritrea. Eritrea is a country found in the Horn of Africa. The main city and capital of this region is Asmara. Asmara is also the capital city of all of Eritrea! This region is sometimes called the Ma'ekel Region or Maakel Region. It was officially created on April 15, 1996.

The Central Region is divided into smaller sections called subregions. Think of these like smaller districts or areas within a larger region. These subregions help manage the different parts of the region and its communities.
