Their music director is Andres Moran. He also teaches the horn at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The Orchestra's Story
The CWSO started a long time ago, in 1947. It grew from music classes taught by Peter Michelsen. He was an instructor at Central State Teachers' College. This college is now known as the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The orchestra has had a few different names over the years:
- It was first called the Central State Symphony Orchestra.
- In 1953, its name changed to the Stevens Point Symphony.
- Then, in 1977, it became the Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra.
In January 2015, the CWSO moved its main office. It moved to the Smith Scarabocchio Art Museum. This museum is part of the Parks and Recreation Department in Stevens Point. The CWSO helps manage the museum. A group of volunteer artists helps choose the art that is shown there.
