The Chalo Nitka Festival and Frontier Days is a super fun annual event in Glades County, Florida. It's like a big county fair that celebrates the community and its history. This exciting festival happens every year on the first Saturday of March.

The Chalo Nitka Festival is a week-long celebration! It includes many cool activities. You can see livestock shows and sales, exciting rodeos, and even fun dances. There are also carnival rides for everyone to enjoy, plus lots of arts and crafts for sale. The festival is a great way to experience the friendly "southern hospitality" of Glades County. It also shares the interesting history of the local Seminole people.

The Story Behind the Festival

Chalo Nitka is one of Florida's oldest festivals that has been happening continuously for many years. It first started way back in 1948. The celebration began to mark a special event: the completion of paving Main Street in the town of Moore Haven. This street is now called Avenue J.

The name "Chalo Nitka" has a special meaning. It comes from the Miccosukee language, which is spoken by some Native American tribes. In Miccosukee, "Chalo Nitka" means "Day of the Big Bass."
