The Chamberlin House is a special old building located at 44 Pleasant Street in Concord, New Hampshire. It was built way back in 1886. This house is a great example of a building designed in the Queen Anne style, which was very popular back then. What's cool is that it was built using plans ordered from a catalog! Today, it's the home of the Concord Women's Club. Because of its history and unique style, the Chamberlin House was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.

What Does the Chamberlin House Look Like?

The Chamberlin House is on the north side of Pleasant Street in Concord. It's a two-and-a-half story house made of wood. It was built in 1886 by Horace Chamberlin. He was in charge of the local part of the Boston and Maine Railroad.

Even though the house was built from plans ordered through the mail, it has lots of fancy details. These details are typical of the Queen Anne and Shingle Style of architecture. You can see these cool designs both inside and outside the house.

The house has a main roof that slopes down on all sides, called a hip roof. But it also has many parts that stick out. For example, there's a round tower, called a turret, with a pointy roof on the right side of the front.

On the left side, there's a single-story porch. This porch has decorative railings in a style called Stick style. Above the porch, there's a window section that sticks out, known as a bay window. This bay window has a large gable above it. The front of this gable is covered with decorative, cut shingles. There's also a small square window right in the middle.

Who Lived in the Chamberlin House?

The Chamberlin family lived in the house for many years. It stayed in their family until Horace Chamberlin's wife passed away in 1918. Since they didn't have any children, she decided to give the house to the Concord Women's Club. She had been a member of this club for a long time.

Today, the club still uses the building as their clubhouse. The inside of the house has beautiful detailed woodwork and unique styles. It hasn't been changed much to fit the club's needs, so you can still see many of its original features.
