Chantal de Guerre (born on June 10, 1942), known as Chantal Goya, is a famous French singer and actress.

She started her career in the mid-1960s as a yé-yé singer. This was a popular style of music in France. It mixed girl-group pop with French chanson (a type of song). Chantal Goya also acted in movies, especially in the French New Wave style. She had a main role in the 1966 film Masculin, féminin.

Since 1975, Chantal Goya has become best known for her songs for children. She works with her husband, Jean-Jacques Debout, who writes and composes music. Together, they create amazing shows for kids. These shows often feature themes of dreams and exciting journeys. Chantal Goya's most famous character in these shows is named Marie-Rose.

Chantal Goya's Life Story

Chantal was born in French Indochina in 1942. Her parents were French. In 1954, during the Indochina Wars, her family moved to France. They lived in the Vosges mountains. In the early 1960s, her family moved to Paris. When she was 18, she met singer and composer Jean-Jacques Debout. They are still married today.

After finishing her studies, Chantal went to a party. There, she met Jean-Jacques Debout again. He was already a successful singer and songwriter. He had written songs for other popular artists. Jean-Jacques Debout was very impressed by Chantal. He told her she would become famous. Chantal did not believe him at first.

When she returned to France, Jean-Jacques Debout was waiting for her. He sang a song he had written for her. Chantal then fell in love with him. This song, "Nos doigts se sont croisés," won a music festival.

In 1964, Chantal started working as a model. She appeared in a magazine for teenage girls. Jean-Jacques Debout decided to call her Chantal Goya. He thought she looked like a character painted by the Spanish artist Francisco Goya. The magazine owner, Daniel Filipacchi, was also a record producer. He offered Chantal a record deal. Jean-Jacques Debout wrote her first songs.

Chantal Goya's first record came out in late 1964. It included the song "C'est bien Bernard". This song became her first big hit.

Later in 1964, Chantal sang "C'est bien Bernard" on a TV show. The famous film director Jean-Luc Godard was watching. He thought she would be perfect for a role in his new movie. The movie was called "Masculin, féminin". Chantal was surprised but accepted the part. The movie was released in 1966.

Chantal also had another hit song called "Une écharpe, une rose". This song was popular in France and Japan. After a while, her songs had less success in France. She also acted in fewer movies. But her husband, Jean-Jacques Debout, kept writing songs for TV shows.

In 1975, Jean-Jacques Debout was hosting a TV show. He needed a song for the end of the show. He wrote "Adieu les jolis foulards" for Chantal Goya to sing with children. This song was about a French teacher who had to leave her school. It was Chantal's first song made especially for kids.

Many people loved the song and wanted to buy it. A TV producer convinced Chantal to make it into a record. Chantal and Jean-Jacques Debout tried to get record companies interested. Finally, they met François Dacla from RCA Records. He loved the song and released it. That's how Chantal Goya became a beloved singer for children.
