Charagua is a small town located in the southern part of Bolivia. It is the main town in the Cordillera province. Most people living here speak the Guaraní language.
Charagua is actually made up of two different parts. There's the older part of town and a newer settlement. This newer part grew up along the railway tracks, about 3.2 kilometers (2 miles) to the east.
In April 1935, during the final stages of the Chaco War, the Paraguayan Army briefly took control of Charagua. The Chaco War was a big conflict between Bolivia and Paraguay over a region called the Gran Chaco.

An organization called CIPCA has been working in Charagua for over thirty years. CIPCA stands for Centro de Investigacion y de Promocion del Campesinado. This means "Center for Research and Promotion of the Peasantry." They help local farmers and communities.
The Guarani Culture
North of Charagua, you can find a special place called Arakwarenda. This is known as the "house of the Guarani." It's a center that helps preserve and promote the culture of the Guarani people. Next to Arakwarenda, there's also an experimental farm. This farm helps people learn new ways to grow crops and improve farming.
