Charisma latebrosa is a super tiny sea snail. It's a type of mollusk called a gastropod, which means "stomach foot." This little snail lives in the ocean and belongs to the Trochidae family, also known as "top snails" because of their shell shape.

What Does the Charisma latebrosa Snail Look Like?

The shell of the Charisma latebrosa is very small. It is about 1.35 millimeters (mm) tall and 1.45 mm wide. That's less than the size of a grain of rice!

The shell is a light brown color and shaped like a globe. It has a small hole at the bottom. The shell has three main parts, called whorls, which are like spirals. These whorls are flat near the top and then become rounder towards the bottom.

The shell has cool patterns, almost like tiny sculptures. It has about twenty wavy lines that go around the top part of the shell. There are also about a dozen similar lines around the central hole, called the umbilicus. The whole shell is covered in fine, thin spiral lines that are separated by small grooves.

The opening of the shell, called the aperture, is almost perfectly round. The umbilicus (the central hole) is deep but narrow. The snail also has a special "door" called an operculum. This door is hard and shell-like, and it has spirals just like the snail's shell.

Where Does the Charisma latebrosa Snail Live?

This tiny sea snail lives in the ocean waters off Australia. It is mostly found near Queensland. Scientists are not sure if it also lives off the coast of New South Wales. When an animal or plant only lives in one specific area, it is called endemic to that place. So, Charisma latebrosa is endemic to Australia.
