Charles Ansell (born 1752) was an English painter who was active in the late 1700s.
What He Painted
Charles Ansell showed his art at the famous Royal Academy in London only a couple of times, in 1780 and 1781. He was especially known for his amazing drawings of horses. But he also painted everyday scenes of home life.
His most famous work was called Life and death of a Racehorse. This was a series of six pictures. Another artist named Francis Jukes made engravings of them. These pictures were published in 1784.
Ansell also created other interesting works, such as:
- The graces of archery or elegant airs, attitudes and lady traps
- A six-picture series called The life of a horse
Other works by Ansell were turned into engravings by Peltro William Tomkins. These included:
- The English Dressing Room
- The English Fire Side
- The French Dressing Room
