Early Life and Family
Charles Bingham was the second son of Sir John Bingham, 5th Baronet. His mother was Anne Vesey.
In 1750, Charles's older brother, John, passed away. This meant Charles inherited a special title and became a "baronet." A baronet is a title of honour, like a knight, that can be passed down in a family.
Political Career
Charles Bingham had an active career in politics.
Local and Irish Parliament
In 1756, he was chosen to be the High Sheriff of Mayo. This was an important job in the local government.
In 1761, people voted for him to become a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is someone elected to speak for their area in the government. He was elected for two places, Castlebar and County Mayo, but he chose to represent County Mayo.
He continued to be an MP in the Irish House of Commons (the Irish Parliament) until 1776.
Becoming a Nobleman
In 1776, Charles Bingham was given a higher title. He became a "peer" in Ireland, which meant he was given the title of Baron Lucan. This new title allowed him to sit in the Irish House of Lords, which was another part of the Irish Parliament.
Because his title was Irish, it didn't stop him from being elected to the British Parliament. In 1782, he became an MP for Northampton in England. He served there for two years.
In 1795, he received an even higher title. He became an Earl of Lucan.

On 25 August 1760, Charles Bingham married Margaret Smith in Bath, England. They had one son and four daughters.

Lord Lucan passed away in London in 1799, at the age of 63. His son, Richard, took over his titles.
