Charles Gerald McNamara followed in his father's footsteps to become a successful engineer. He spent his life working on many projects across Ireland. His work helped build and improve different structures and systems in the country.
Early Life and Education
Charles went to school in Dublin. He studied at the University School and Belvedere College. After finishing school, he went to University College, Dublin. In 1922, he earned a special degree in engineering. This degree helped him start his career.
Starting His Engineering Career
Charles began his work alongside his younger brother, N.P. McNamara. They worked at their father's engineering company. This was a great way for Charles to learn from experienced engineers. After some time, he also worked for the Office of Public Works. This office helps manage public buildings and projects.
Building His Own Company
In 1936, Charles decided to start his own engineering business. This was a big step! After his father, T.F. McNamara, passed away in 1947, Charles combined his father's company with his own. This created a new, bigger firm called C.G. McNamara & Partners. He even brought in a new partner, N.R. MacGovern, to help with the design part of the business. Charles Gerald McNamara passed away in Dublin around 1965 or 1966.
