Charles Gordon, 4th Earl of Aboyne facts for kids
Charles Gordon, 4th Earl of Aboyne, was an important Scottish nobleman who lived from about 1726 to 1794. He was the oldest son of John Gordon, the 3rd Earl of Aboyne. When his father passed away on April 7, 1732, Charles became the 4th Earl of Aboyne.
His main family home was Aboyne Castle in Scotland. He also had a house in Edinburgh's New Town, a fancy new area built at the time. When Charles Gordon died in 1794, his oldest son took over his titles and responsibilities.

Charles Gordon was married two times during his life. His marriages helped connect his family to other important Scottish noble families.
His First Marriage
Charles Gordon first married Lady Margaret Stewart on April 22, 1759. Lady Margaret was the daughter of Alexander Stewart, the 6th Earl of Galloway. Together, Charles and Margaret had three children:
- Lady Catherine Gordon (1760–1764), who sadly passed away when she was very young. She was buried in Restalrig churchyard.
- George Gordon, 9th Marquess of Huntly (1761–1853), who would later become a very important figure himself.
- Lady Margaret Gordon (around 1763–1786), who married William Thomas Beckford in 1783.
Lady Margaret, Charles's first wife, passed away on August 12, 1762.
His Second Marriage
After Lady Margaret's death, Charles Gordon married again. His second wife was Lady Mary Douglas, whom he married on April 13, 1774. Lady Mary was the daughter of James Douglas, the 14th Earl of Morton. Charles and Mary had one son together:
