Charles Howard was the second son of Lord Edmund Howard and Joyce Culpeper. He also had an older brother named Sir George Howard. Their family, the Howard family, was one of the most powerful and influential families in England.

His Family Connections

Because of his family's importance, Charles's uncle, Thomas Howard, 3rd Duke of Norfolk, helped him get a job at the King's court. This was a great opportunity for Charles. His position at court became even better in 1540. This was when his sister, Catherine Howard, became the King's fifth wife.
