Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Charles Moore (born in 1804, died August 15, 1869) was an Irish politician. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for Tipperary in the British Parliament from 1865 to 1869. This means he was elected by people in Tipperary to represent them and help make laws for the country.

About Charles Moore

Charles Moore was born on June 17, 1804. His parents were Arthur and Mary O'Hara Moore, and they lived in Crookedstone, County Antrim, Ireland.

He was a successful businessman. He was a partner in a company called Moore Brothers and Company, which was a merchant firm in Liverpool, England.

Around 1852, Charles Moore bought a large house called Mooresfort in County Tipperary, Ireland. He made some big changes to the house, making it smaller by reducing it from three stories to two. He also served as a Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for that county, which meant he was a local official who helped keep the peace and deal with minor legal matters.

While he was a Member of Parliament, Charles Moore didn't speak very often. His only known speech in the House of Commons was during a discussion about an important law called the Habeas Corpus Suspension Bill. This law was about people's rights and how they could be held in prison.

Charles Moore passed away on August 15, 1869, at his home in Grafton Street.
