Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Charles Moore (born in 1804 – died August 15, 1869) was an Irish politician. He served in the British Parliament from 1865 to 1869. During this time, he was a Member of Parliament (MP) for the area of Tipperary.

About Charles Moore

Charles Moore was born on June 17, 1804. His parents were Arthur and Mary O'Hara Moore. They lived in a place called Crookedstone in County Antrim, Ireland. Charles later became a partner in a business in Liverpool called Moore Brothers and Company. This was a company that traded goods.

Around 1852, Charles Moore bought a property called Mooresfort in County Tipperary. He made big changes to the house, making it smaller from three floors to two. He also served as a Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for that county. A Justice of the Peace is a local official who helps keep the peace and deals with minor legal matters.

Charles Moore only made one known speech in the House of Commons. This was during a discussion about the Habeas Corpus Suspension Bill. This bill was a law that allowed the government to hold people without trial for a period of time, especially during times of unrest.

He passed away on August 15, 1869, at his home on Grafton Street.

His Family Life

  • Helena Blanche, who later became a nun (a woman who dedicates her life to religious service)
  • Laura Mary, who married George Augustus Vaughn. George was a partner in her father's business. He was also the nephew of John Vaughan, 3rd Earl of Lisburne.
