When Charles Payne was 17, he joined the United States Air Force. He worked as a security policeman. He was stationed at Minot Air Force Base in Minot, North Dakota. While serving, he also studied at Minot State University and Central Texas College.

Charles Payne began his career on Wall Street in 1985. He worked as an analyst at E. F. Hutton. An analyst studies financial information to help people make smart money choices.
