Professional Basketball Career
Playing in the NBA
Charles Smith played for several teams in the NBA, which is the top basketball league in North America. He was part of the Denver Nuggets, Portland Trail Blazers, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Clippers, and San Antonio Spurs.
Success in European Leagues
Smith was known for being a great scorer. He played for many teams in European leagues, including Makedonikos Kozani, Virtus Bologna, and Efes Istanbul.
Top Scorer in EuroLeague
In 2005, while playing for the Italian team Scavolini Pesaro, Charles Smith won the first-ever Alphonso Ford Trophy. This award is given to the player who scores the most points in the EuroLeague season. He was the best scorer in the 2004–05 EuroLeague season.
EuroCup Champion with Real Madrid
In the 2006–07 season, Smith helped the Spanish team Real Madrid win the ULEB Cup (now called EuroCup). He was even named the Finals MVP for his amazing performance in the championship game.
Later Career in Europe
After his time with Real Madrid, Smith returned to the Turkish Basketball Super League in 2008, signing with Efes Pilsen. Later, for the 2010–11 season, he moved back to Italy and played for Lottomatica Roma. Charles Smith retired from professional basketball in 2011.
