Charles d'Évreux facts for kids
Charles d'Évreux was a French nobleman who lived from 1305 to 1336. He was the son of Louis, Count of Évreux, and Margaret of Artois. Charles was an important figure in his time, especially as the Count of Étampes.
Becoming Count of Étampes
Charles inherited a special area called the lordship of Étampes from his father. A "lordship" was like a territory ruled by a lord. In 1327, this lordship became even more important when it was made a "county." This meant Charles became the first Count of Étampes. As a count, he was a powerful noble with control over his lands and people.
Family Life
In April 1335, Charles d'Évreux married Maria de La Cerda y de Lara. Their wedding took place in a town called Poissy. Maria was the daughter of Ferdinand de la Cerda, who was also a significant noble.
Charles and Maria had two children together:
- Louis I, Count of Étampes
- John (born in 1336, and lived until after 1373 in Rome)
Charles d'Évreux passed away on September 5, 1336. His son, Louis, later took over as the next Count of Étampes.
