Charles Curnow (born on February 3, 1997) is a professional Australian rules football player. He plays for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Charlie is a key forward, which means he plays a big role in scoring goals for his team. He has won the Coleman Medal twice. This award goes to the player who kicks the most goals in the AFL home-and-away season.

Junior Career and Draft Day

Before joining the AFL, Charlie played junior football for the Geelong Falcons. He was known as a strong forward who could run for a long time. Many thought he had great potential for the future.

However, he had some challenges. He had a knee injury that made him miss a lot of his last year of junior football. Despite this, the Carlton team chose Charlie. They picked him with their third choice, number twelve overall, in the 2015 AFL draft. Charlie's older brother, Ed Curnow, was already playing for Carlton at that time.

Playing in the AFL

Charlie Curnow played his first game in the AFL in 2016. It was in Round 2 of the 2016 season against Sydney. He played at Docklands Stadium. In that game, he had eleven possessions, took four marks, and kicked his first goal.

In 2017, Charlie was nominated for the AFL Rising Star award. This award goes to the best young player in the league. He finished fourth overall in the voting.

In June 2018, Charlie signed a new contract with Carlton. This meant he would stay with the club until at least 2023. He had a fantastic season in 2018. He finished third in the John Nicholls Medal, which is Carlton's best and fairest award. He also became the club's top goalkicker, scoring 34 goals that year.

Battling Injuries

In 2019, Charlie kicked seven goals in one game against the Western Bulldogs. This was his highest score in a single game at that time. But soon after, he hurt his right knee. This injury was similar to ones he had in his junior years.

He had more knee problems in 2020 and 2021. These injuries kept him from playing for a long time. He did not play another senior game until Round 20 of the 2021 season.

Return to Form

Charlie made a great comeback in the 2022 AFL season. He played in every game that year. He won the Coleman Medal by kicking 64 goals. His teammate, Harry McKay, had won the medal in 2021. This made them the first players from the same team to win the award in back-to-back years since 1900–1901. After this amazing season, Charlie signed a long contract to stay with Carlton until 2029.

In 2023, Charlie had another incredible year. He kicked nine goals in a game against West Coast. Later that season, he kicked a career-best 10 goals against West Coast again. He was the first Carlton player to kick 10 goals in a game since Stephen Kernahan in 1995. Charlie won his second Coleman Medal in a row, finishing the season with 78 goals.
