Charlotte Goodall (born Charlotte Stanton, 1766 – July 1830) was a famous British actress. She was especially known for her funny roles in plays at the Drury Lane Theatre in London.

Early Life and Acting Career

Charlotte Stanton was born in 1766. Her father ran his own acting company, which is where Charlotte first learned how to act. She grew up around the theatre and quickly became very good at performing.

Charlotte was discovered while performing in Bath, England. She was playing a character named Rosalind in a play called As You Like It. A famous actor named John Palmer saw her and was very impressed.

After being discovered, Charlotte performed in many important roles in cities like Bristol and Bath. Soon, she was invited to act at the famous Drury Lane Theatre in London, where she once again played Rosalind. She became quite well-known, even making the newspapers when she had a disagreement with another actress, Priscilla Kemble, about a role.

In 1787, Charlotte married Thomas Goodall, who was a merchant captain. She then became known as Mrs. Goodall.

Two years later, in 1789, Charlotte was hired to perform in "breeches parts." This was a special type of role where a female actress would dress up as a man. It was very popular at the time! A famous artist named Samuel De Wilde even painted her in her costume for one of these roles, Sir Harry Wildair, from a play called The Constant Couple.

Charlotte Goodall passed away in July 1830 in Somers Town, London.
