Chawathil First Nation facts for kids
The Chawathil First Nation, also known as the Chawathil Indian Band, is a group of Indigenous people called the Sto:lo. They live in a beautiful area of Canada called the Upper Fraser Valley, near the town of Hope, British Columbia. Their traditional name in the Halkomelem language is Chowéthel.
About the Chawathil First Nation
The Chawathil First Nation is part of the Stó꞉lō Tribal Council. This council helps different Sto:lo First Nations work together. The Chawathil First Nation also operates the Telte-yet Campground. This campground is a popular place located right by the Fraser River in downtown Hope.
Where the Chawathil Live
The Chawathil First Nation has several special areas of land called reserves. These reserves are their traditional lands. Their main reserve is called Chawathil 4. It is located near a place called Katz, which is a station on the Canadian Pacific Railway. This reserve is very large, making up almost 90% of all their land. In total, their land covers about 614.1 hectares (which is about 1517 acres).
