Early Life and Music Beginnings
Chelsea Cutler grew up in Westport, Connecticut. When she was a child, she learned to play acoustic instruments. As she got older, in high school, she started making electronic music.
While attending Pomfret School in 2014, Chelsea began sharing her music online. She posted cover songs and her own original songs on a platform called SoundCloud. She continued to share music while studying at Amherst College in Massachusetts. She also played varsity soccer there.
Later, Chelsea decided to leave college to focus on music full-time. This happened after she got an amazing chance to join Quinn XCII on his national tour in 2018.
Chelsea's Music Career
By 2017, many of Chelsea's songs were getting lots of listens online. One popular song was "Your Shirt." This led to her working with other artists like Louis the Child and Ayokay.
In late 2017, Chelsea signed a music deal with Ultra Records. She then released her first collection of songs, called an EP, titled Snow In October. After touring with Quinn XCII in early 2018, Chelsea released two more music collections: Sleeping with Roses and Sleeping with Roses II. She even went on her first two tours across the country to support these collections. All the tickets for these tours sold out!
New Music and Collaborations
In March 2019, Chelsea signed with Republic Records. Soon after, she released a joint EP called brent with her friend and fellow artist, Jeremy Zucker. This EP included the hit song "You Were Good to Me." They even performed this song live on The Today Show.
In May 2019, Chelsea worked with the famous DJ Kygo on a song called "Not OK." This song became very successful. It reached number 9 on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs chart.
Towards the end of 2019, Chelsea started releasing new songs like "How To Be Human" and "Lucky." These songs, along with "Sad Tonight," were the main songs from her first full album, How To Be Human. The album was released on January 17, 2020. A few days later, she performed "Sad Tonight" on Late Night With Seth Meyers. This song became her first to appear on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 radio chart, reaching number 32. In April 2020, she also joined Louis the Child and Quinn XCII on their song "Little Things."
Chelsea was supposed to perform at the Coachella music festival in 2020. However, the festival was canceled that year. In June 2020, she released a new version of her song "Crazier Things" with Noah Kahan.
In 2022, Chelsea sang John Lennon's famous song "Imagine" in Times Square on New Year's Eve. At 25 years old, she was the youngest artist to ever perform that song there.
