Early life and education
Chelsea Cutler grew up in Westport, Connecticut. As a child, she played acoustic musical instruments. In high school, she started making electronic music. While at the Pomfret School in 2014, Chelsea began sharing her songs online. She posted covers and her own original music on SoundCloud. She continued sharing music while attending Amherst College in Massachusetts. She also played varsity soccer there. Chelsea later decided to leave college to focus on music full-time. This happened after she was asked to join Quinn XCII's national tour in 2018.
Career highlights
By 2017, many of Chelsea's songs, like "Your Shirt," were streamed millions of times. This led to her working with other artists that year. She collaborated with Louis the Child on "Slow Down Love." She also worked with Ayokay on "The Shine" and Kasbo on "Found You." In late 2017, she signed a record deal with Ultra Records. She then released her first EP, Snow In October.
After touring with Quinn XCII in early 2018, Chelsea released two mixtapes. These were called Sleeping with Roses and Sleeping with Roses II. She also went on her first two tours across the country. Both tours were completely sold out.
Working with other artists
In March 2019, Chelsea signed with Republic Records. Soon after, she released an EP called brent with her friend and label-mate Jeremy Zucker. This EP included the song "You Were Good to Me." They performed this song live on The Today Show. In May 2019, Chelsea worked with Kygo on the song "Not OK." This song became her third collaboration to appear on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Songs chart, reaching number 9.
Debut album and performances
In late 2019, Chelsea started releasing new songs. These included "How To Be Human" and "Lucky," which featured Alexander 23. Along with "Sad Tonight," these songs were the main singles for her first studio album. The album, also called How To Be Human, was released on January 17, 2020. On January 23, 2020, she performed "Sad Tonight" on Late Night With Seth Meyers. That song became her first to appear on the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 chart, reaching number 32 in March 2020. In April 2020, she was featured on the Louis the Child song "Little Things" with Quinn XCII.
Chelsea was scheduled to perform at Coachella in 2020. However, the festival was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In June 2020, she released a new version of her song "Crazier Things" with Noah Kahan. In 2022, Chelsea sang John Lennon's song "Imagine" in Times Square on New Year's Eve. At 25 years old, she was the youngest artist to do this.
