Chenal (say it like "Sh Nahl") is a small community in Louisiana, USA. It's located in the southeastern part of Pointe Coupee Parish. An "unincorporated community" means it's not a city with its own local government.
The name "Chenal" is a French word. It means "channel." The community got its name from a body of water nearby. This water is also called "the Chenal." It's actually an old path of the mighty Mississippi River. Another nearby water body, False River, was also once part of the Mississippi.

History of Chenal
Early Church and Community Life
The first church in the Chenal area was called Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception. It started as a mission in 1853. A mission is like a small religious outpost.
Later, this church building burned down. A new church was then built in Lakeland, Louisiana. The spot where the first church stood is now the Chenal Cemetery.
Post Office Services
A post office opened in Chenal in 1892. This was important for sending and receiving mail. However, the Chenal post office closed in 1951.
After that, a new post office was set up in a nearby community called Rougon. This new post office served both Chenal and Rougon.
Where is Chenal Located?
Chenal is found west of the famous Mississippi River. It is situated along Louisiana Highway 414. The community is almost directly north of another nearby place called Rougon.
