Cherokee, Ohio facts for kids
Cherokee is a small place in Logan County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that doesn't have its own official local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's looked after by the larger county government.
A Look Back at Cherokee's Past
Cherokee was first planned and laid out in 1832. When a place is "platted," it means someone drew up a map showing where streets, lots, and buildings would go. This helps organize how the community will grow.
The community got its name from a nearby stream called Cherokee Mans Run. In the same year, 1832, a post office was opened in Cherokee. Post offices were very important back then! They helped people send and receive letters and packages, connecting them to the rest of the world. This post office served the community for several years before it closed down in 1849.
