It's not entirely clear why this community was named "Cherry Box." There are a few old stories or traditions about how it got its name, but no one knows for sure which one is true.

The Old Post Office

For many years, Cherry Box had its own post office. It first opened in 1858, helping people send and receive mail. The post office served the community for a long time, finally closing its doors in 1943.
