The Cherry Hut: A Sweet Michigan Spot
The Cherry Hut started out quite small. At first, it only had outdoor seating, which is sometimes called "al fresco" dining. Back then, they only served their famous cherry pie!
Growing Bigger and Better
Over time, The Cherry Hut grew. They added indoor seating so people could enjoy their meals inside. They also expanded their menu beyond just pie. Now, you can find tasty comfort foods like chicken pie (topped with biscuits!) and chicken salad made with dried tart cherries.
Famous Cherry Treats
Of course, the cherry pie is still the star! You can get it plain, or "a la mode" which means with a scoop of yummy ice cream. In 2003, The Cherry Hut was using a huge amount of cherries—about 3,000 pounds every week! They used all those cherries to bake up to 500 pies. That's a lot of pie! Besides pies, the store also sells refreshing cherry juice and sweet cherry jam.
Cherry Jerry: The Cheery Mascot
The Cherry Hut has a fun mascot named Cherry Jerry. He's known as the "Cheery Cherry Pie-Faced Boy"! You can spot Cherry Jerry on a big sign north of Beulah. For a while, every pie they made even had Cherry Jerry's image pressed into the crust.
