Cheryle Robinson-Jackson (born Cheryle Robinson; July 20, 1965) is an American leader. In October 2006, she became the first female president and CEO of the Chicago Urban League. This organization has been helping people for over 90 years.

Cheryle Jackson's Career Journey

Early Government Roles

Before leading the Chicago Urban League, Cheryle Jackson worked for the governor of Illinois, Rod R. Blagojevich. She was a top communications helper for him. She also served as the main spokesperson for the state. She was the first woman and the first African American to hold this important job in Illinois. After about two and a half years, she left this role. She resigned because she didn't agree with how the governor was leading.

Working with Transportation and Media

Before her time with the governor, Jackson spent three years at Amtrak. Amtrak is a big train company in the United States. At Amtrak, she was a leader in communications and worked with government officials. She was in charge of how Amtrak talked to state and local governments. She also acted as the company's spokesperson in 41 states. This was especially important during difficult times, like after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

She also worked at National Public Radio (NPR). NPR is a well-known radio network. At NPR, she held several important jobs. She was a leader for communications and how NPR was seen by the public. She also managed the network's national marketing and public relations. She was the main voice for NPR across the country.

Community and Political Involvement

Cheryle Jackson has also helped guide many important organizations. She served on the boards of the Metropolitan Planning Council and the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. She was also part of the Chicago 2016 Olympics Committee. This committee worked to bring the Olympic Games to Chicago.

In 2009, Cheryle Jackson decided to run for a spot in the U.S. Senate. This is a very important political position in the United States government. She officially started her campaign on September 16, 2009. However, in the election on February 2, 2010, she didn't win the election to become the Democratic Party's candidate. Alexi Giannoulias won that election instead.
