Cheryle Robinson Jackson (born Cheryle Robinson; July 20, 1965) is an important American leader. She made history in October 2006. She became the first female president and CEO of the Chicago Urban League. This organization has been helping people for 90 years.

Cheryle Jackson's Career Journey
Early Government Work
Before leading the Chicago Urban League, Cheryle Jackson worked for the state of Illinois. She served in the team of Governor Rod R. Blagojevich. She was a top leader in communications for the state. First, she was the communications director and chief press secretary. This meant she was in charge of how the government talked to the public. She was the first woman and first African American to hold this important job in Illinois. Later, she became a deputy chief of staff for communications. After about two and a half years, Cheryle decided to step down from her role.
Working with Amtrak and NPR
Before her state government job, Cheryle Jackson worked for Amtrak. This is a large passenger train company. For three years, she was the vice president for communications and government affairs. She handled how Amtrak communicated with the public and with state and local governments. She was also a spokesperson for Amtrak in 41 states. She often spoke for the company during difficult times, like after the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
She also worked at National Public Radio (NPR). NPR is a well-known radio network. At NPR, she held several important jobs. These included vice president of communications and brand management. She was also the director of corporate communications. Cheryle was the national spokesperson for NPR. She also managed the network's national marketing and advertising efforts.
Community and Leadership Roles
Cheryle Jackson is also involved in many community groups. She serves on the boards of the Metropolitan Planning Council. She is also on the board of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce. These groups help improve business and life in the Chicago area. She was also part of the Chicago 2016 Olympics Committee. This committee worked to bring the Olympic Games to Chicago.
Running for U.S. Senate
In 2009, Cheryle Jackson decided to run for a big political job. She wanted to become a U.S. Senator for Illinois. The Associated Press reported her plans in August 2009. She officially started her campaign on September 16, 2009. A U.S. Senator helps make laws for the entire country. On February 2, 2010, she ran in the Democratic Party election. She was not chosen as the party's candidate. Alexi Giannoulias won that election instead.
