History of Chester
Chester was started in 1905. It got its name from Chester Township, which is a local area.

Chester is located in the southeastern part of Lake County. It's about 1 mile south of Brant Lake. It is also about 15 miles southeast of Madison. Madison is the "county seat," which means it's where the main government offices for Lake County are.
The area of Chester is about 0.82 square miles (2.1 square kilometers). All of this area is land. Skunk Creek flows along the western side of Chester. This creek comes from Brant Lake and eventually flows south to the Big Sioux River near Sioux Falls.
