Chester Moore Hall (born December 9, 1703, in Leigh, Essex, England – died March 17, 1771, in Sutton) was a clever British lawyer and inventor. He is famous for creating the very first achromatic lens. He made this special lens around 1729 or 1733.
He used his new achromatic lens to build the first achromatic telescope. This was a big deal! It meant telescopes could show clearer images without annoying color problems. Chester lived at New Hall in Sutton. Sometimes his name was spelled Chester Moor Hall or Chester More Hall.
His special lens design used two different types of glass: a crown glass and a flint glass. These two parts worked together to focus two different colors of light at the same spot. This helped make images much clearer. Chester is noted for making this first "twin color corrected lens" in 1730.
