The Chetumal International Airport (IATA: CTMICAO: MMCM) is an important airport located in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico. It helps people travel by air to and from Chetumal. This airport is managed by Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA), which is a company owned by the Mexican government.

About Chetumal Airport

The Chetumal Airport became part of the ASA network in 1974. It covers a large area of 230 hectares (about 568 acres). The part where planes park and get ready for flights is about 13,140 square meters. The airport also has a long runway, which is 2.2 kilometers (about 1.37 miles) long. This runway is big enough for large planes like the Boeing 737.

The airport has an office that helps with safety and rules for plants and animals, called SENASICA. The airport is open for business from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM every day.

This allowed more planes to use the airport. The governor at the time, Roberto Borge Angulo, supported these changes. The goal was to improve the city's travel options and help Quintana Roo grow. The main building of the airport was also made bigger during this time.

  • MexicanaClick used to serve this airport until 2010. Their flights to Chetumal stopped when their parent company, Mexicana, faced financial problems.
  • After Mexicana stopped flying, Aeroméxico tried to take over some of those routes. However, other airlines like Interjet offered lower prices, which made it hard for Aeroméxico to continue. Aeroméxico stopped its service to Chetumal on February 23, 2013, but they started flying there again on December 9, 2020, with Aeroméxico Connect.
  • Aviacsa and VivaAerobus were also among the first low-cost airlines to fly to Chetumal Airport.
