Brun de Boades began his naval career very young. He joined the Navy as a Garde-Marine on April 2, 1748. This was a starting rank for young officers. He worked hard and was promoted to Lieutenant on January 15, 1762.
Rising Through the Ranks
Brun de Boades continued to prove himself. He was promoted to Captain on April 4, 1777. This was a very important role, as it meant he would command his own ship.
In 1778, Captain Boades took command of a fast warship called the frigate Magicienne. Frigates were known for their speed and ability to scout.
Fighting in the American War
In 1780, Brun de Boades was given command of an even bigger warship. This was the 64-gun ship Triton. He sailed with a large group of ships, known as a squadron. This squadron was led by a famous French admiral named Guichen.
Brun de Boades fought in the American Revolutionary War. He was part of the important Battle of the Chesapeake. This was a major sea battle that helped the American and French forces win the war. Sadly, he was badly wounded during this battle. He passed away from his injuries on September 7, 1781.
