Chevillon, Yonne facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Chevillon was a small town, also known as a commune, located in the center of France. It was part of the Yonne department.

What is a Commune?

In France, a commune is like a local government area. It's the smallest division of land for administrative purposes. Think of it like a town or a village with its own local council. Communes handle things like local services and managing public spaces.

The Yonne Department

France is divided into larger areas called departments. The Yonne department is one of these areas. It is located in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of central France. Departments help manage services for larger groups of communes.

Chevillon: A Former Commune

Chevillon is now known as a "former commune." This means it used to be a separate commune on its own. However, it has since joined with another commune. On January 1, 2016, Chevillon merged with the commune of Villeneuve-la-Dondagre. Together, they formed a new, larger commune. This kind of merger happens sometimes to help towns work together more efficiently.
