Chiaki Morosawa (両澤 千晶, Morosawa Chiaki, 28 March 1959 – 19 February 2016) was a talented Japanese anime writer. She is best known for creating the "Cosmic Era" universe. This is the world where popular anime shows like Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny take place. Chiaki Morosawa was the main writer for both of these exciting series. She was born in Urawa, Saitama, Japan. She was also the older sister of film director Kazuyuki Morosawa and the wife of animation director Mitsuo Fukuda.
Her Family and Early Life
Chiaki Morosawa had a brother named Kazuyuki Morosawa (両沢 和幸, Morosawa Kazuyuki, born 24 November 1960). He is also a film director and writer. He worked on movies like Dear Friends and Baby, Baby, Baby!.
Chiaki first met her future husband, Mitsuo Fukuda, when they were still in school. Back then, she enjoyed creating her own stories and art as a hobby. Even though they went to different high schools, they stayed friends. After college, Chiaki worked in an office. Mitsuo, however, started working at the animation studio Sunrise in 1979.
Later, Chiaki and Mitsuo got married. She decided to focus on her family and became a housewife. They had two children together.
Her Amazing Career in Anime
Even before she officially started writing for anime, Chiaki Morosawa was involved. Her husband, Mitsuo Fukuda, often asked for her ideas. This started with his first anime series, Future GPX Cyber Formula.
Chiaki is famous for creating the "Cosmic Era" universe. This is the detailed world and background for the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny anime series. She was the main writer for these shows. Other writers also used her "Cosmic Era" world for spin-off stories. These include Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Astray and Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Stargazer.
After Mobile Suit Gundam SEED finished in 2002, Chiaki had some health challenges. Because she needed ongoing care, she passed on some writing duties for Gundam Seed Destiny to other staff at Sunrise. This also led to a delay in the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED movie.
In 2014, she wrote some special audio dramas. These stories featured characters from Mobile Suit Gundam SEED. They were called "Omake Quarters" and were part of the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny HD Remaster Blu-ray Box.
Her Passing
Chiaki Morosawa passed away on 19 February 2016, at the age of 56.
