Chiapuk has two other interesting names: Copperopolis and Copperosity. These names come from the nearby Copperosity Mine. A mine is a place where valuable minerals, like copper, are dug out of the earth.
During the late 1880s, the local post office was even called the Copperopolis Post Office. This shows how important mining was to the area at that time.
