Where is the Children's Art Museum of Nepal?
The Children's Art Museum of Nepal is in Kathmandu. It is located northeast of Durbar Marg street. You can find it on the top floor of a five-story building. This building is right in the middle of Kathmandu.
Who Started the Children's Art Museum?
The museum was founded by Sneha Shrestha (artist). She studied art and global issues at Gettysburg College. After college, she worked at Artists for Humanity. There, she helped young artists with painting and education.
Sneha received a special fellowship to start her project. She decided to build a permanent art space for children. Her goal was to help kids appreciate their culture. She also wanted them to express themselves through art. This idea became the Children's Art Museum of Nepal.
What is CAMON's Main Goal?
The Children's Art Museum of Nepal has important goals:
- To become a leading place for art and education in Nepal.
- To give children and young people creative ways to express themselves.
- To make art a regular part of school education for kids.
What Does the Museum Look Like Inside?
The museum has two main rooms. These rooms are inside a 1,200 square foot space on a rooftop.
The Exhibition Room
This room shows off art made by Nepali students. They create this art in workshops held at the museum. The Exhibition Room also displays art from local artists. Sometimes, it shows art from international artists too. This space works as a small art gallery. It can also be used for quick art workshops.
The Education Room
The Education Room has a small library. It is also the main place for creative activities. This room is like a "creativity lab." It has many art supplies for workshops.
The Cloud Space
The rooftop area has been turned into a small living space. It is called the "Cloud." Artists can stay here for a short time to work on their art.
What Programs and Activities Does CAMON Offer?
CAMON offers many fun and educational activities. According to Pranjali Singh, the Program Coordinator, children can explore freely. However, most activities also teach about important social issues.
Even before the museum officially opened, activities began in 2013. These were part of CAMON’s Community Outreach Program.
Art Workshops and Camps
One program is an alphabet workshop. Here, kids learn about the unique Nepali alphabet. The museum also holds winter art camps.
Community Art Projects
CAMON helps create many murals around Kathmandu. A mural is a large painting on a wall. One project was a "Wall of Hope" mural. This was for a film and art festival. The CAM team, also called the CAM crew, works on these projects.
Awareness Campaigns
Volunteers at CAMON also organize special days. For example, they held a hand-washing awareness day. School children helped make a mural at their school for this event.
How Does the Museum Get Money?
The museum gets most of its money from a special online fundraising campaign. This campaign was called Indiegogo. It helped raise money from many people. The founder also received a grant. This grant helped start the museum and keep it going.
