The Children's and Family Emmy Awards are special prizes given to the best TV shows and programs made for kids and families in the United States. They are also known as the Children's and Family Emmys. These awards are part of the bigger Emmy Awards, which celebrate amazing work in American television. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) gives out these awards. They recognize excellent TV shows for children and families. The very first ceremony happened on December 10 and 11, 2022, in Los Angeles. These awards were created because there was a lot of great TV being made for children and families.

History of the Awards
Before these awards started, most of the Emmy Awards for children's TV were given out during the Daytime Emmy Awards. The Primetime Emmy Awards also used to have a special award for children's programs. However, in 2020, this award was stopped. This was because many new streaming services made it confusing whether children's shows should be judged with daytime or primetime programs.
On November 17, 2021, the NATAS announced something new. They said they would create a brand-new award show just for children's and family television. This new show would be called the Children's and Family Emmy Awards. The NATAS explained that there was a huge increase in the number and quality of shows for kids and families. They felt these shows deserved their own special celebration.
This new ceremony was part of a bigger change for the Primetime Emmy Awards and Daytime Emmy Awards. Starting in 2022, shows were judged based on their themes and style, not just when they aired on TV. In December 2023, the NATAS president, Adam Sharp, shared some news. He said that the Children's and Family Emmy Awards would move to a different time of year. Industry members wanted the ceremony to happen after the holiday season. So, the third annual ceremony took place on March 15, 2025.
