This spring is the China Spring community's namesake.

China Spring is a small community in Texas, United States. It's located in the northwestern part of McLennan County. This area is about 12 miles (19 km) northwest of the city of Waco. It's considered part of the larger Waco area.

History of China Spring

People started settling in the China Spring area around 1860. The community itself was officially founded in 1867. It got its name from a natural spring found in a grove of chinaberry trees.

A post office opened in China Spring in May 1873. Charles S. Eichelberger was the first postmaster. By the early 1880s, about 200 people lived there. The community had five steam-powered cotton gins and gristmills. There were also three general stores and a Methodist church. Farmers in the area mainly grew cotton and corn. They also raised sheep for wool.

In the late 1920s, China Spring became the center of a rural school district. By the mid-1970s, maps showed the community had two churches, a school, and many homes.
