Chiraprapha (Thai: จิรประภา) was a powerful queen who ruled the Kingdom of Lan Na. She was the 12th ruler of this ancient kingdom. A "queen regnant" means she ruled the kingdom herself, not just as a king's wife.
Chiraprapha was also the grandmother of King Setthathirath. He later became a famous king of Lan Xang, another important kingdom.
Who Was Queen Chiraprapha?
Chiraprapha was born in 1499 in Chiang Mai Town. This city was the capital of the Lan Na Kingdom. Her parents were King Phra Chao Setarat and Queen Phra Nang Pathumkhappha. They ruled a place called Setanakhon.
Her Time as Queen
Queen Chiraprapha ruled Lan Na from 1545 to 1546. Her time as queen was short but important. She took over after King Phra Mueang Ket Klao. He was her husband.
After her rule, Setthathirath became the next ruler. He was her grandson. This shows how important her family was in the history of the region.
Family and Legacy
Chiraprapha belonged to the Mang Rai Dynasty. This was a very important royal family in Lan Na. She had several children, including Sai Kham, Chom Mueang, and Yot Kham Thip.
She lived a long life and passed away in 1594. Her death happened in Luang Prabang Town. This town was part of the Kingdom of Lan Xang. Her life connected two major kingdoms of Southeast Asia.
