Chomp is a yummy chocolate bar first made by Cadbury in South Africa in the early 1970s. Today, you can find Chomp bars in South Africa, Australia, and the United Kingdom. It's a popular treat in all these places!

What is Chomp?

Chomp chocolate bars are a bit different depending on where you buy them. Each country has its own special version!

Chomp in Australia

The Australian Chomp bar has a layer of crunchy wafer and soft, chewy caramel. All of this is covered in a tasty compound chocolate. This version is longer and thinner than the one sold in the UK. It usually weighs about 30 grams.

The Australian Chomp has a fun slogan: 'It's a monster chew!' Its packaging features a cool green T-rex dinosaur named Tyrone. Tyrone wears a hat and even appeared in old Australian TV commercials riding a skateboard! Back in the 1970s, the slogan for Chomp in Australia was "Ten cents never tasted so good."

Chomp in South Africa

Chomp bars made in South Africa are sold there and in other parts of Southern Africa. The packaging for these bars also shows the green T-rex, Tyrone, with his hat. The popular slogan for South African Chomp is "Cadbury's Chomp - the greatest chocolatey mouthful."

In South Africa, you can find Chomp in different sizes. There's a 22.7-gram bar, a longer strip weighing 60.4 grams, and even a bigger "treat size" of 360 grams. Advertisements for Cadbury Chomp in South Africa have been very popular since the 1970s. Some of these ads showed a father hippo teaching his son how to open his jaws wide to enjoy a big bite of the chocolatey goodness!

Chomp in the United Kingdom

In 2009, the Chomp bar in the UK got a new look for its wrapper. The letter 'C' in the Chomp logo was designed to look like a mouth with teeth, which is pretty cool!

Where Chomp is Made

For many years, Chomp bars for the UK market were made in a factory in Keynsham, England. However, around late 2010, the making of these bars moved to a new Cadbury factory in Skarbimierz, Poland. When you look at the labels on these Chomp bars, they don't say exactly which country they were made in. Instead, they say "Made in the EU under license from Cadbury UK Ltd." This means they are made in Europe with permission from Cadbury UK.
