Chontla is a town and a local government area (called a municipality) in the northern part of Veracruz, a state in Mexico. It's about 220 kilometers (around 137 miles) away from Xalapa, which is the capital city of Veracruz. The total area of Chontla is about 361 square kilometers (139 square miles). As of 2005, about 14,549 people lived there.
