Chris Bender (born Christopher Lamont Bender on August 2, 1972) was a talented American R&B singer from Brockton, Massachusetts. He became known for his smooth voice and catchy songs in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Sadly, his promising career was cut short when he passed away at a young age in 1991.

Life and Career of Chris Bender

Chris Bender was born in Brockton, Massachusetts, on August 2, 1972. He loved music and dreamed of becoming a singer. To follow his dream, he traveled to New York City. There, he met Earl Williams, who became his manager. Earl helped Chris get a record deal with Epic Records in 1989. This was a big step for the young artist!

His first song, "Baby Girl," came out in 1989. Chris signed a contract for seven albums, but only one album was released before he passed away. This album was called Draped. It became quite popular, reaching No. 92 on the Billboard magazine R&B album chart.

Chris's Hit Songs

Chris Bender had two songs that became very popular. "I Knew" and "That's Not The Way" both made it into the top 70 on the Hot R&B Singles chart. "I Knew" was his biggest hit, peaking at #43 on the R&B singles chart and staying there for 10 weeks. "That's Not The Way" reached #68 and stayed on the chart for 5 weeks.

He was also known for other songs like "Who Will I Choose" and "Kiss and Make Up." "I Knew" was his only music video.

A Sad Ending

Sadly, Chris Bender's life ended too soon on November 3, 1991, when he was only 19 years old. He passed away in the hospital from his injuries. His 17-year-old cousin, Jesse Starks, was with him at the time. People were held responsible for his death.
