Chris Smith's Early Life

Chris Smith grew up in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia. He started playing junior rugby league for the Nightcliff Dragons. This was part of the local Darwin Rugby League.

When he was 15, the North Queensland Cowboys rugby league club signed him. At 17, he moved to Sydney and joined the Penrith Panthers. He also went to Patrician Brothers' College, Blacktown while living there.

Chris Smith's Rugby Career

Starting Out (2012-2015)

From 2012 to 2014, Chris played for the Penrith Panthers' NYC team. This is a competition for younger players. In August 2012, he was chosen to play for the Australian Schoolboys team. This is a big honor for young players.

In 2015, Chris moved up to the Penrith New South Wales Cup team. This is a step closer to the top league.

Later that year, he made his first ever NRL game. This was for Penrith against the Newcastle Knights. It was a big moment in his career!

Moving to the Roosters (2016-2017)

In April 2016, Chris left the Penrith Panthers. He then joined the Sydney Roosters team. He signed a contract to play with them until the end of 2017.

In 2017, Chris played only one top-level game for the Sydney Roosters. This game was against Canberra.

Time with the Bulldogs (2018-2021)

After playing for the Roosters, Chris signed with the Canterbury Bulldogs at the end of 2017. In 2018, he played one game for Canterbury. He spent most of that year playing for their reserve grade team.

His reserve grade team won the Intrust Super Premiership NSW grand final. They also won the NRL State Championship the next week. This was a great achievement for the team!

In 2019, Chris played in 20 games for Canterbury. He became a regular player in their main team. In November 2019, he signed a new contract. This meant he would stay with Canterbury until the end of the 2021 season.

In 2020, Chris had an injury during a pre-season game. This meant he couldn't play for the first few months of the season.

At the end of the 2021 season, Chris was told he would not be offered a new contract. This meant he would leave the Bulldogs. In November, he signed a new contract to return to the Penrith Panthers for the 2022 season.

Back to the Panthers (2022)

In 2022, Chris played six games for the Penrith Panthers. He mostly played for their NSW Cup team that year. On September 25, Chris played in the Panthers' NSW Cup Grand Final win. They beat the Canterbury Bulldogs in that game.

On October 2, Chris also played in the NRL State Championship final. His team, Penrith, won 44-10 against the Norths Devils.
