The Christ Methodist Episcopal Church in Denver, Colorado, also known as Scott Methodist Episcopal Church, is a very old and important building. It is located at 2201 Ogden Street. This historic church was built way back in 1889.

It was recognized as a special place when it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. This means it's a building worth protecting because of its history.

A Look at the Church Building

The Christ Methodist Episcopal Church is a two-story building. It measures about 74 by 90 feet (which is about 22.5 by 27.4 meters). The church was designed in the Gothic style. This style often includes pointed arches and tall windows.

A New Chapter for the Church

In 1927, an African American church group bought the building. They renamed it the Scott Methodist Episcopal Church. This new name honored a very important early Black Methodist bishop. This was a big moment for the community.

Later, this congregation moved to a different place. The building then found a new purpose. In 1995, it was changed into apartments called Sanctuary Lofts. This way, the historic building could still be used and cared for.

Why This Church is Important

The Christ Methodist Episcopal Church is important for several reasons. It shows the history of church architecture from the late 1800s. It also tells a story about the African American community in Denver. The church building has adapted over time, from a place of worship to homes. It remains a significant landmark in the city.
