His Early Life and Education
Frijs finished his high school education, called studentereksamen, at Sorø Academy in 1835. After that, he decided to study law. He earned his law degree, known as cand.jur., in 1842. This education prepared him for a life of public service.
How Did He Become a Politician?
Frijs was one of the wealthiest landowners in Denmark. Because of his wealth and the respect he earned from people, especially farmers, he started playing a role in politics in the 1850s.
Becoming Denmark's Leader
After a war in 1864, Denmark was debating a new constitution. In 1865, Frijs was chosen to become the Council President, which is like being the Prime Minister. This marked the start of the Højre (a conservative party) leading the government. This period lasted until 1901.

He finally left politics completely in 1880.
