Christina Oiticica, born on November 23, 1951, is a talented artist from Brazil. She has been married to the famous writer Paulo Coelho since 1980.

Christina is known for her unique art style. She lets nature help create her paintings! This is like land art and eco art. Land art uses natural materials, and eco art focuses on nature. Christina's art grew from an experimental art movement in Rio de Janeiro in the 1970s. She has shown her amazing paintings all around the world.

How Christina Creates Her Art

Christina Oiticica came up with a special way to paint. She combines land art with painting. This idea came to her in the French Pyrenees mountains. She wanted to paint a very long canvas, about 10 meters (33 feet) long. She realized she didn't have a big enough indoor space. So, she decided to paint outside in nature.

Nature's Touch on Paintings

After finishing her painting, she left it outside to dry. The next day, she went back to pick it up. She found that dust, dirt, leaves, and even small insects had become part of the canvas. Nature had added its own special touch to her artwork! This was not planned, but it made her art truly unique.

Painting in Different Landscapes

Christina started using this technique in the forests, valleys, and mountains of the Pyrenees in France. The art she created there became a book called The Four Seasons. Later, between 2004 and 2005, she took many canvases to the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil. She buried them there and waited a whole year to get them back. The wet and tropical forest left its lasting marks on her paintings. In 2005, she also took her art to the Sacred Valley of Ganespura in India.

The Saint James Way Project

From 2006 to 2008, Christina chose the Saint James Way as her outdoor studio. This is a very old and special path where people from all over the world walk. She made her canvases in different spots along the Way. She used the shapes of rocks, the effects of rain and snow, and the colors of the soil. She also used natural pigments and wax. Once the canvases were ready, she "planted" them in the ground. She then collected them several months later.

Christina usually leaves her canvases "planted" for about nine months. This is like the time it takes for a baby to grow. Sometimes, she leaves them for a full year. This matches the cycle of the four seasons.
