Education and Career

Christine Graffigne studied a lot! She earned two Ph.D. degrees. Her first one was in 1986 from Paris-Sud University. For this, she wrote a big research paper called Applications des statistiques au traitement d'images, which means "Applications of Statistics to Image Processing." Her supervisor was Dominique Picard.

Then, in 1987, she earned her second Ph.D. from Brown University in the United States. Her research paper there was titled Experiments In Texture Analysis And Segmentation. Stuart Geman, who she gave the talk with, was her supervisor for this degree.

Today, Christine Graffigne is a professor at the MAP5 (Applied Mathematics at Paris 5) Laboratory. This lab used to be part of Paris Descartes University and is now part of the University of Paris.

Before 2019, she was in charge of the Information Technology and Mathematics Training and Research Unit (UFR de Mathématiques et Informatique) at Paris Descartes University. This means she led the department that taught math and computer science. David Janiszek took over her role in 2019.
