The Christman Covered Bridge is a really old and special bridge in Preble County, Ohio. It's called a "covered bridge" because it has a roof and walls, just like a house! This bridge helps people cross over Seven Mile Creek on Eaton-New Hope Road. It's located near the city of Eaton.
A skilled builder named Everett S. Sherman built this bridge in 1895. He actually built many covered bridges in the area! Because it's so important, the Christman Covered Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976. This means it's recognized as a historic landmark.

Building the Christman Bridge
The Christman Covered Bridge was built in 1895. It cost about $4,250 to build back then. This money covered different parts of the project. For example, the stone for the bridge came from the Eaton Stone Company. That part cost $2,452.
The builder, Everett S. Sherman, was paid $1,301 for his work. Another person, Harry C. Foster, did the masonry work. This means he worked with stone and bricks. His part of the job cost $499.
Keeping the Bridge Strong
Even old bridges need care! From 2007 to 2008, the Christman Covered Bridge was repaired. This work cost a lot more than building it. The repairs cost over $331,000. This shows how much effort goes into keeping historic places safe and usable.
Why is it Called Christman Bridge?
The Christman Covered Bridge is named after a man named Solomon Christman. He owned the land around the bridge. He also ran a sawmill nearby. A sawmill is a place where logs are cut into lumber. This mill was located downstream from the bridge.
The Christman Bridge was one of the last bridges Everett S. Sherman ever built. Only one other bridge, the Warnke Covered Bridge, was built by him after this one.
What Else is Nearby?
You can still see small signs of the old sawmill near the road. These traces are about 200 yards west of the bridge. The Christman Covered Bridge is still open today. People can drive across it to get where they need to go.
