Christopher Dillon O'Brien (born December 4, 1848 – died August 27, 1922) was an important Irish-American lawyer and politician. He is best known for serving as the mayor of Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Early Life and Family

Christopher O'Brien was born in County Galway, Ireland, on December 4, 1848. His family was Catholic. When Christopher was a child, his father, Dillon O'Brien, moved to the United States. Dillon O'Brien was a writer.

He first worked as a teacher with Native American communities in Wisconsin. Later, in 1863, his family joined him in Saint Paul, Minnesota. There, his father worked with Archbishop John Ireland. They helped many Irish Catholic families settle in the state.

Becoming a Lawyer and Starting a Family

Christopher O'Brien studied law. In 1870, he "passed the bar." This means he passed an exam that allowed him to become a lawyer. He could then legally practice law.

In October 1872, Christopher married Susan E. Slater. They had eight children together.

Political Career

Christopher O'Brien was a member of the Democratic Party. In 1874, he was elected as the county attorney for Ramsey County, Minnesota. A county attorney is a lawyer who works for the government. They handle legal matters for the county.

Later, from 1883 to 1885, O'Brien served as the mayor of Saint Paul. The mayor is the leader of a city. They help make important decisions for the community.

Christopher O'Brien passed away at his home in Saint Paul on August 27, 1922.
