Christopher Swift Dickey (born August 31, 1951 – died July 16, 2020) was an American journalist, author, and news editor. He worked as a world news editor for The Daily Beast, based in Paris, France. Christopher Dickey wrote seven books, including a memoir about his father, the famous poet and novelist James Dickey.

Early Life and Education
Christopher Dickey was born on August 31, 1951, in Nashville, Tennessee. His parents were Maxine Syerson Dickey and James Dickey. As a child, his family moved often, living in places like France, Italy, and different parts of the United States.
He went to the University of Virginia, where he earned his bachelor's degree in 1972. Later, in 1974, he received a master's degree in documentary filmmaking from Boston University.
A Career Reporting the World
Christopher Dickey started his career as a foreign correspondent in 1980. A foreign correspondent is a reporter who lives in another country to cover news there. He began as the Mexico and Central America Bureau Chief for The Washington Post.
For over 30 years, he reported from many places around the world. He covered wars and major events in Central America and the Middle East. He also visited Africa and the Balkans to report on important stories.
His experiences led him to write several non-fiction books. These included With the Contras (1986) about Nicaragua, and Expats (1990) about his travels in Arabia. He also wrote two novels, Innocent Blood (1997) and The Sleeper (2004).
From 2010 to 2013, Christopher Dickey worked for both Newsweek and The Daily Beast. He was the Paris bureau chief and Middle East editor. In March 2014, he became the world news editor for The Daily Beast.
His articles and essays appeared in many well-known publications. These included Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, and Vanity Fair.
