Christopher Kimball is an American editor, publisher, and TV personality. He was born on June 5, 1951. He is well-known for creating popular cooking shows and magazines. He helped start America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country. Later, he created Christopher Kimball's Milk Street.

Early Life and School

Christopher Kimball grew up in Westchester County, New York. His parents were Mary Alice White and Edward Norris Kimball. His family also had a cabin in Vermont.

He went to Phillips Exeter Academy for high school. After that, he studied at Columbia University. He graduated in 1973 with a degree in Primitive Art.

His Career in Cooking

Starting Out

After college, Kimball worked with his stepbrother at a publishing company. He also took cooking classes. In 1980, he started his own magazine called Cook’s Magazine. He got money from friends and family to help him begin. He sold this magazine in 1989.

America's Test Kitchen

Christopher Kimball was a co-founder of America's Test Kitchen. This company creates TV shows, radio shows, and magazines about cooking. He was also an editor and publisher there.

He launched Cook's Illustrated magazine in 1992. Later, in 2004, Cook's Country magazine was also started. These magazines are special because they get their money from readers, not from advertisements. This helps them stay independent.

Kimball also hosted two popular cooking shows on public television. These were America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country from America's Test Kitchen.

In November 2015, it was announced that Kimball would be leaving America's Test Kitchen. The TV shows for 2016 had already been filmed, so he still appeared as the host. However, his work with the company ended at that time.

Christopher Kimball's Milk Street

In 2016, Kimball started a new cooking company called Christopher Kimball's Milk Street. It is located on Milk Street in Boston, Massachusetts.

There was a legal disagreement between his old company and his new one. The lawsuit was settled in August 2019. As part of the agreement, Kimball sold his remaining shares in America's Test Kitchen back to the company.

Other Projects

Christopher Kimball has written several cookbooks. Some of his books include The Cook's Bible, The Yellow Farmhouse Cookbook, and The Dessert Bible. He also wrote columns for newspapers like the New York Daily News.

He has appeared on other TV shows, such as This Old House. He was also a guest on morning shows like Weekend Today and The Early Show.

Kimball has been a regular guest on National Public Radio. In 2011, he started hosting America's Test Kitchen Radio. When he left America's Test Kitchen in 2015, his work on that radio show also ended. In 2016, he began hosting a new weekly cooking radio show called Milk Street Radio. This show is also heard on public radio stations across the U.S.

Personal Life

Christopher Kimball has been married three times. He has four children from his second marriage: a son and three daughters. He and his second wife divorced in 2012.

In June 2013, Kimball married Melissa Lee Baldino. She was an executive producer for the America's Test Kitchen TV show. Now, she is a co-founder of Christopher Kimball's Milk Street. They have two children together: a son born in 2017 and a daughter born in 2019.
