Christopher Kimball (born June 5, 1951) is an American editor, publisher, and TV and radio personality. He is well-known for creating popular cooking shows and magazines. He helped start America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country. Later, he also created Christopher Kimball's Milk Street.

Early Life and School

Christopher Kimball grew up in Westchester County, New York. His parents were Mary Alice White and Edward Norris Kimball. His family also had a special cabin in Vermont.

He went to Phillips Exeter Academy, a well-known school. After that, he studied at Columbia University, graduating in 1973. He earned a degree in Primitive Art.

His Career in Cooking

Starting Out in Publishing

After college, Kimball worked with his stepbrother in a publishing business. He also started taking cooking classes, learning more about food.

In 1980, he got $100,000 from friends and family to start his own magazine. He called it Cook’s Magazine. He ran the magazine from an office in Weston, Connecticut. He later sold this magazine in 1989.

America's Test Kitchen

Christopher Kimball was one of the people who started America's Test Kitchen (ATK). This company makes cooking TV shows and radio programs. They also publish popular cooking magazines.

Some of their famous magazines include Cook's Illustrated, which Kimball started in 1992. They also publish Cook's Country magazine, which began in 2004. ATK is special because it gets its money from readers, not from advertisements. This means they can focus on what their readers want.

Kimball also hosted the TV shows America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country from America's Test Kitchen. These shows are shown on public television.

In November 2015, it was announced that Kimball would leave America's Test Kitchen. He still appeared as the host for the 2016 TV shows because they were filmed earlier. However, his work with the company ended.

Christopher Kimball's Milk Street

In 2016, Kimball started a new cooking company called Christopher Kimball's Milk Street. It is located on Milk Street in Boston.

After he left America's Test Kitchen, there was a disagreement. His old company, Boston Common Press, filed a lawsuit against him. They claimed he used their ideas and resources to start his new company. This legal issue was resolved in August 2019. As part of the agreement, Kimball sold his remaining shares in ATK back to the company.

Other Work

Christopher Kimball has written several cookbooks. Some of his books include The Cook's Bible and The Yellow Farmhouse Cookbook. He also wrote columns for newspapers like the New York Daily News.

He has appeared on other TV shows, such as This Old House. He was also on morning shows like Weekend Today and The Early Show.

Kimball has been a regular guest on National Public Radio (NPR). He hosted America's Test Kitchen Radio from 2011 until 2015. In 2016, he started a new weekly radio cooking show called Milk Street Radio. This show is also heard on public radio stations across the U.S.

Personal Life

Christopher Kimball has been married three times. He has a son and three daughters with his second wife, Adrienne. They divorced in 2012.

In 2013, he married Melissa Lee Baldino. She used to be an executive producer for the America's Test Kitchen TV show. Now, she is a co-founder of Christopher Kimball's Milk Street. They have two children together, a son named Oliver (born 2017) and a daughter named Rike (born 2019).
