Christopher McEvoy (born 1899, died 1953) was a brave British pilot. He was known as a "flying ace" because he won nine air battles during World War I. He also received a special award called the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Early Life

Christopher McEvoy was born in Cricklewood, North London, England, on February 2, 1899. His parents were Cuthbert and Margaret McEvoy.

World War I Pilot

When he was old enough, Christopher joined the Royal Flying Corps, which was Britain's air force at the time. In January 1918, he became a pilot with No. 66 Squadron in Italy.

First Victories

Christopher was slightly hurt in February 1918 and spent a short time in the hospital. On March 30, 1918, he won his first air battle. By August 1, he had won nine air battles in total.

Awarded for Bravery

Later, Christopher became ill and had to return to England. After he got better, he served in No. 37 (Home Defence) Squadron. He was given the Distinguished Flying Cross for his bravery. This award was announced on September 23, 1918. The award recognized him as a "gallant pilot" who had destroyed six enemy planes. It also noted his great determination in attacks.

World War II and Later Life

Christopher McEvoy returned to service in the Second World War. In September 1939, he became a temporary pilot officer. He worked as a codes officer for RAF Coastal Command. This part of the air force protected the coast.

He continued to serve as a pilot officer. However, he had to leave the service on September 7, 1940, because of illness. Christopher McEvoy passed away in Dorking, England, on October 12, 1953. He had been ill for a long time.
